Through innovative techniques and reality-based strategies based on the 12 step philosophy, JADE provides a drug and alcohol education program for youth ages 12-17. The parents/guardians that attend the program with the minor will be educated about current drug trends, symptoms of drug and alcohol abuse, and teen parenting tips. A parent/guardian must attend with the minor.
JADE is a 12 hour course divided into 2 evening sessions, 3 hours of independent work for the juveniles, and a one hour follow up meeting called an “exit interview”. Participants will be educated about the

effects of substance abuse, drug tested, interact in a group process with CYS counselors, and witness powerful presentations given by people whose lives have been impacted by drugs and alcohol. Each part of the program is supervised and facilitated by experienced professionals in the drug and alcohol field. Every participant is evaluated and is interactively involved through the progression of the program.
Concluding the course, each participant and their parents/guardians will receive resources, strategies, and information to help them improve and change their lifestyles.

JADE Changes Lives
Parents, concerned that their 16-year-old daughter was using drugs, decided to send her to the JADE program. She tested positive for marijuana the first night and swore to her parents that it was the only drug she had ever tried and she didn’t even like it. A surprise drug test at the second JADE session revealed that she was also using cocaine. Her parents were unpleasantly surprised, yet grateful to finally know the truth. With their suspicions confirmed, their daughter is getting the help she needs at a residential treatment facility. “Before we went to JADE we did not know the extent of our daughter’s drug use. The counselors at JADE were able to discern what was really going on with our child and, based on those facts, made helpful recommendations for our family.”
CYS Changes Lives
Seventeen-year-old “Drew” was required by his school district to attend a CYS school based program. He had been caught under the influence and in possession of drugs on the school campus. He was respectful during the program but he showed very little desire to change his ways. He continued using drugs for the next two years. An intravenous heroin user, his life was spinning out of control. Five months after entering himself into a treatment center he contacted CYS staff to say, “Thank you for showing me a different way of life and how to get help. Even though I did not want help when I met you guys, you taught me where to go when I needed it. My life is great now! I’ve never had it so good.” Andrew now speaks as a “sober teen” at the JADE program.
