DECISIONS is a legal awareness program for youth between the ages of 12 and 17 and their parents/guardians. Taught by law enforcement professionals in a correctional facility, DECISIONS provides youth with an opportunity to evaluate the decisions they are making, gain an understanding of the short and long term consequences of poor decisions and learn how to make positive choices for themselves.
Program goals include:
• Hold youth accountable for their actions.
• Learn about real life consequences of repeated poor decisions, including probation and incarceration.
• Empower youth to make good decisions.
• Educate parents/guardians on their rights and responsibilities.
• Jail tour (parents/guardians only).
Classes are taught by Orange County Sheriff Department Deputies, Orange County Probation Officers and guest speakers.
Decisions Changes Lives
A fifteen-year-old girl slapped and punched another student at school. She was arrested and referred to DECISIONS. “I was arrested for assault and battery and now I’m on probation. If I get in trouble again they are going to send me to juvenile hall. After hearing the ‘incarcerated youth’ talk, I decided to change my ways. Jail sounds scary and disgusting and I don’t want to go there, ever! I’m so glad I had the chance to come to the DECISIONS program.”
